The Miss CHS scholarship pageant – which is one of the longest continuous pageants in North Carolina – began in 1964 as a one-time fundraiser for the school yearbook. Paula Justice was the very first student crowned as Miss Clahischo. Mr. James Lawrence Williams was the yearbook advisor at the time, and he served as pageant director until his retirement in 1993.
In 1980, Miss Clahischo was renamed Miss Clayton High School to more accurately reflect the duties of the titleholders, who had become representatives of not only the school, but for the entire Clayton community.
The 2017 scholarship pageant begins at 7 PM. Tickets are on sale now online and through The Clayton Center box office. Tickets are $10, plus sales tax and fees.
