Enjoy some holiday music this Saturday

Christmas is just around the corner, but you still have this weekend to enjoy some holiday music. The Johnston County Chorus will perform their annual Christmas shows tomorrow, Saturday, December 14. The shows begin at 1 PM and 7 PM.

Sing along to all of your holiday favorites, and enjoy performances by special guests from Stage Door Dance Productions, the Four Oaks Elementary Cardinal Choir and soloist Tyler Dean. 

Tickets for the show, Christmas Is Coming, Sing for Joy, are $16 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under, plus sales tax and fees. A group rate is available for groups of 8 or more. Tickets will be available at the door.

If you think you have what it takes to create the best gingerbread house in town, get out the sugar, turn on your oven and start constructing your entry for the 2019 Clayton Gingerbread House Contest.

Sponsored by The Tina Barletta Team at HTR, in partnership with The Clayton Center and Clayton Visual Arts, the contest is open to Johnston County residents in the following categories: Youth – 17 and under; Adult – 18 and over; and Professional – chefs, bakers, caterers and artists.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category. Entries will be judged by members of Clayton Visual Arts. Winning entries will be announced on Thursday, December 5.

All contest entries will be on public display during business hours at The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second Street in downtown Clayton, from November 27 through December 23.

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

The Clayton Center offices, including the Box Office, will be closed for the holidays from December 24 through January 1. Please note that Sunday church services will go on as scheduled on Sunday, December 30. During this time, tickets to all upcoming events are available through our website at www.theclaytoncenter.com.

Additionally, Town of Clayton offices, including Town Hall (including our Utilities & Billing department), Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library, and the Clayton Community Center will be closed through Wednesday, December 26, and will re-open on Thursday, Dec. 27.

All Town facilities will be closed on New Year’s Day, Tuesday, January 1. We thank you for your patience and understanding, and we wish you all the very happiest of holidays!

 

Holiday Happenings

All will be merry and bright around town beginning tonight, Thursday, November 29. Thousands of people will pack Main Street beginning at 5:30 PM for the Annual Christmas Village and Tree Lighting sponsored by the Clayton Downtown Development Association.

Enjoy two and a half hours of music, holiday cheer, business open housed, a live Nativity, train rides and — of course — a chance to see Santa. The tree lighting ceremony begins at 7:45 PM at Town Square on the corner of Main Street and Fayetteville Street.

This weekend also kicks off The Clayton Center’s schedule of holiday events.

Enjoy an old-fashioned Christmas show the way they used to be, presented by the Around Town Singers and Orchestra on Saturday, December 1, at 7 PM. Sing along to all of your favorite songs of the season. Tickets are $18, plus sales tax and fees. A group discount is available for groups of 8 or more.

On Sunday, December 2, at 6 PM, Tippy Toes Dance Studio of Princeton presents its annual production of the Nutcracker. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door, plus sales tax and fees.

Join us for the remarkable musicianship of the Fabulous Equinox Orchestra as they present their Fabulous Equinox Orchestra Clayton Center NCswinging renditions of holiday classics on Friday, December 7, at 8 PM. Tickets are $35, plus sales tax and fees, UNLESS you make your purchase on Tuesday, December 4. Take advantage of a special half-off discount on Tuesday for all tickets purchased for the Fabulous Equinox Orchestra.

Then, on Saturday, December 15, the Johnston County Chorus presents A Christmas Spectacular, its annual holiday show featuring all of your favorite seasonal songs and skits. Special guests this year include dancers from Artistry in Motion dance studio. Tickets for both the 2 PM and 7 PM shows are $16 for adults and $12 for students 12 and under. A group discount is available for groups of 8 or more.
