Say Hello To “Bye Bye Birdie” July 27-28, August 1-4

Clayton Youth Theater is busy rehearsing for the 2018 summer production of Bye Bye Birdie.

Winner of 4 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Bye Bye Birdie is a loving send-up of the early 1960s, teenagers, and rock & roll. When rock star and teen idol Conrad Birdie is drafted into the army, his manager, Albert Peterson, faces financial ruin. Desperate for a publicity stunt big enough to help him survive Birdie’s departure, Albert and his secretary, Rose, hatch a plan to send Conrad to small-town America to sing one last song and give a goodbye kiss to one lucky fan on national television.

Hit songs from the show include Put on a Happy Face, Kids!, One Last Kiss, and A Lot of Livin’ to Do.

CYT will present Bye Bye Birdie on July 27, August 2, 3 and 4, at 7 PM, and Saturday, July 28, at 2 PM. Tickets for the show are $12 for adults, $6 for students 18 and under plus sales tax and fees. Tickets go on sale on Monday, June 25, at 10 AM.

Countdown to “Anne of Green Gables”

The cast of “Anne of Green Gables,” Clayton Youth Theater’s (CYT) 2018 winter production, is ramping up rehearsals this week as opening night approaches. The curtain rises this Thursday, February 22, at 7 PM.CYT 2018 The Clayton Center

Cherished by generations of “kindred spirits,” L.M. Montgomery’s beloved novel comes to life in this stage adaptation by Peter DeLaurier. “Anne of Green Gables” follows the misadventures of Anne (spelled with an “E”) Shirley — a wildly independent orphan with fiery red hair and a temper to match. Anne Shirley is mistakenly sent to live with a plainspoken farmer and his spinster sister, who thought they were adopting a boy! She wins over the Cuthberts and all of Prince Edward Island with her irrepressible spirit and imagination – and wins over audiences with this warm, poignant story about love, home and family.

CYT will present “Anne of Green Gables” on Thursday and Friday, February 22 and 23, at 7 PM, and Saturday, February 24, at 2 PM and 7 PM.

Tickets are on sale now for $12 for adults and $6 for students 18 and under (plus sales tax and fees). All seating for CYT performances is reserved.

“Little Shop Of Horrors” Marks Clayton Youth Theater 10th Anniversary

CYT Little Shop of Horrors

Clayton Youth Theater began rehearsals last week for their 10th anniversary summer production. The group goes back to their roots – literally – with their production of the sci-fi musical comedy Little Shop of Horrors.

Little Shop of Horrors was the very first show that CYT staged in 2007. Since then, they have presented 17 productions and sold nearly 19,000 tickets.

A deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical, Little Shop Of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatre goers for over 30 years. Howard Ashman and Alan Menken (Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, and Aladdin) are the creative geniuses behind what has become one of the most popular shows in the world.

The schedule of events surrounding the 2017 production includes five performances – July 28 and 29 and August 3, 4, and 5 – an alumni reception and the popular Backstage Pass camp. So mark your calendars, and check back here and at the CYT web site for more details throughout the summer.

Tickets to all of the July and August performances of Little Shop of Horrors go on sale on Monday, June 26, at 10 AM.
