The Clayton Center Is A Great Choice For A Wedding Ceremony, Reception – Or Both!

Yes, The Clayton Center truly IS a great choice for a wedding ceremony, reception or both. You may think that we are a tiny bit biased (and you would be right), but several of us at The Clayton Center speak from personal experience when we tell you that The Clayton Center can be transformed to a wonderful backdrop for most any special event.

The wedding photo featured on our homepage is from the wedding of Rebecca Vandergriff — sister-in-law of our conference center coordinator, Martha Vandergriff. Rebecca and her husband Tyler Knickerbocker chose The Clayton Center for their 2014 wedding reception. The couple was married at their Raleigh church on Friday evening, and then gathered with their family and friends in the main lobby for their reception activities.

Rebecca and Tyler were not the first couple related to a Clayton Center staff member to celebrate their marriage here. Back in 2007, Crystal and Todd Furhmann – sister and brother-in-law of Steven Langston, The Clayton Center’s operations manager – were the first couple to use the auditorium for their wedding ceremony. Crystal and Todd were the first to actually say “I do” on the stage. The couple and their guests then moved into the lobby for their reception.

Crystal and Todd returned to The Clayton Center auditorium this past July on their 10th wedding anniversary (Couple Continues To Make Timeless Memories At The Clayton Center). This time they stood on stage reminiscing and shared their wedding memories with their two children, Madison and Tristan.

Marraccini wedding, October 2017

More recently, in October of 2017, Richie Marraccini – son of box office manager Cathy Marraccini – and his bride, Jessica Schultz chose The Clayton Center for a more non-traditional approach to their wedding. Richie and Jessica recited their vows to one another in the center of the main lobby as guests circled around them and looked on from the staircase and upper landings. The reception immediately followed in the same space, which set the desired atmosphere for a more informal evening of dinner and dancing.

The Clayton Center is not limited to providing space for wedding ceremonies and receptions, as Sylvia Craig, our lead event staff member, can tell you. Sylvia hosted a rehearsal dinner in the Council Chambers for her son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Carrie Craig, the night before they tied the knot in October of 2012. Sylvia used her decorating talent to create a comfortably elegant setting in the Chambers for the bridal party and out-of-town guests to relax and enjoy dinner together before the big event.

You can check out The Clayton Center for yourself on Saturday, February 3, when we host the 2018 Clayton Wedding Expo from 10 AM- 2 PM. Or, email Martha Vandergriff, conference center coordinator at, or call 919-553-3152 to arrange a tour to see if The Clayton Center has what you want for your special event.
