The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players’ I’ve Got a Little Twist is where The Mikado meets The Music Man. It’s where the HMS Pinafore sets sail for Brigadoon. It’s where The Pirates of Penzance take shore leave On the Town. In short, it’s where Broadway meets Gilbert & Sullivan.
I’ve Got a Little Twist — coming to The Clayton Center on Friday, February 21, at 8 PM — is a one-of-a-kind show that proves the Gilbert & Sullivan repertoire is as fun, fresh, and full-of-life as, well, three little maids from school!
See for yourself as the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players (NYGASP) celebrates the legacy of Gilbert & Sullivan in American musical theater, featuring favorites from Rodgers & Hammerstein, Bernstein, Sondheim, Lerner & Loewe, Meredith Willson and Jerry Herman.
The show, which won a 2010 Bistro Award, features ingeniously rewritten lyrics for Gilbert & Sullivan tunes. It brings together Gilbert & Sullivan numbers with more modern musical theatre, and, often, allows the classic Gilbert & Sullivan to speak for itself.
I’ve Got a Little Twist speaks to audiences who are new to Gilbert & Sullivan as well as to die-hard fans. The cast features an emcee who interacts with a soprano, an alto, a tenor, a comic baritone and a bass in a clever mash up of scenes and songs. The performance culminates in a number that celebrates the way in which this tongue twisting art form has been “used and infused into Broadway shows for years.”
NYGASP is in its 46th year of operation as America’s preeminent professional Gilbert & Sullivan repertory ensemble. Under the dynamic leadership of Artistic Director Albert Bergeret, the company has created its own special niche in the cultural mosaic of New York City and the nation.
Tickets to I’ve Got A Little Twist are $22, plus tax and fees.
